TASK 5 - MEGA RESEARCH / ANALYSIS (individual)

SYNOPSIS:
For your exam – Question 1b – you have to analyse your own work looking at representation, narrative, genre, media language and audience.  As part of this task you will start this analysis to help you when it comes to the exam.  You will be looking at 4 of these areas in this task – audience being a task on its own.

Task 1: GENRE AND LANGUAGE

The genre of your chosen main tasks determines the codes and conventions used in it.  Create a chart that looks at 2 different genres that analyses the media language.

This about what you learnt from the TV drama exam for the headings – These are CODES and CONVENTIONS;

Task 2 - Videos/Print: TECHNIQUES
Find 3 examples of your chosen main task that are different and create a presentation that you will deliver to a small group of people (use feedback apps and websites for this).  Use tubechop to cut the video so that we only see the smaller clips.  Please pick videos that are interesting and are slightly different.

Example music videos:
·      Ed Sheeran – The A Team – completely narrative based.
·      The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony – performance based.
·      Justin Timberlake – Mirrors – Performance and narrative based.
·      Fat Boy Slim – Weapon of choice – performance based.

 Example Trailers:

 Example Documentaries (clips):
  • 10 Best Netflix Documentaries: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m07quRLR7oE)
  • Top 20 Planet Earth Clips.

Examples of Magazines:
Here's a list of examples of Regional Magazines in the UK - https://www.subscriptionsave.co.uk/Magazines/Regional-Magazines

In your presentation you need to discuss the similarities and differences in terms of techniques used for filming and editing.

Task 3: REPRESENTATION
Media products represent artists/bands/locations/actors in various ways dependent on the genre.

Find 3 examples that create representation.

Make a poster per genre on the representation using lots of different images from the main task to discuss the representation of the artists/bands/locations/actors in the media product as well as in their branded items.

·      What clothes do people wear?
·      Are there any stereotypes that fit a certain genre? If so what are they?
·      How are men/women represented in your chosen media?

Task 4:
Pick one example of the main task and do a close analysis using theory.  Try to pick a genre that you will eventually use.  You will need to look at all the areas studies so far.  The close analysis can be completed on PPT and then made into a movie.

Grading:
